“Here’s Margaret and and her trusty steed Hilda in training for “Darren’s Ride” …
Margaret is not in disguise, she is just being sun smart! It was a nice warm up, she is pictured 5kms north of Settlers Roadhouse in Myalup, and clocked up a lazy 107km yesterday, ably supported by Bob the Pit Man!
Go Margaret (and Hilda) !!!
Please show your support and get on board Darren’s Ride by clicking to donate – help us to commemorate Darren and achieve our goal of living in a world free from MND!”
While Darren Whitby is now free from Motor Neurone Disease (MND), others continue to suffer and many more people will be diagnosed. Ongoing fundraising is needed to provide for research and support services for those effected.
Friend and former co-worker, Marg Hitching, has made a determination to celebrate Darren’s life and raise awareness about Motor Neurone Disease in the local community. She is undertaking a fundraising cycle from Perth to Busselton next month and hoping to raise money through sponsorship.
“Darren was a wonderful man,” she said. “This ride – Darren’s Ride, is about honouring his memory while doing something symbolic to support the cause. It will be a tough ride both physically and emotionally.”
Marg is hoping Darren’s friends and former colleagues, as well as members of the broader community will support ‘Darren’s Ride’ through sponsorship and/or donations, all of which will go the Motor Neurone Disease Association of WA Inc to support MND research and help MND sufferers and their families. Donations are tax deductable.
The ride takes place on Sunday March 27, 2016. It will culminate on that day with a gathering of supporters at the Busselton RSL, who have kindly donated their hall free of charge.
It is hoped this will be just one of many different fundraising activities, and the first of many rides to come, helping to ensure Darren’s memory lives on.
